STAT MedEvac AirPod – The Dramatic History of Fire Prevention Week

Chicago Fire Museum Fire Prevention Week History

This episode of the STAT MedEvac AirPod: Phil Little, whose father created the Chicago Fire Museum, talks about the great Chicago fire of 1871 , how it happened, the dispelled rumors of how it started, the creation of fire ground procedures since then and, of course, the creation of Fire Prevention Week by President Woodrow Wilson in 1920.

National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month. This is an annual reminder to have a family plan in place for natural disasters and emergencies. While you may not be located in a region that has experienced extreme weather events, it’s important that you always have a plan in place and necessary supplies in your home in case something occurs.

Some tips that are helpful to make sure you’re prepared:

  • Check on your first aid kit and be sure that it’s fully stocked with supplies.
  • Make sure at least one member of your family knows how to provide CPR.
  • Have a family communication plan in place.
  • Research and make sure your insurance covers hazards and natural disasters.
  • Make sure you have at least a three day supply of food and water in your home.
  • Have an emergency kit in your car.
  • Ensure that […]

National Sober Day

September 14th is National Sober Day, a day recognized for those reflecting on their journey with sobriety. This day also sheds light on the journey of alcohol addiction, treatment and recovery.

In part with National Sober Month, National Sober Day was founded in 2019 by ‘Real Aligned Women’ who identify themselves as a ‘sisterhood for sobriety’. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration also endorses the day. Millions of people suffer from substance abuse, and the organizations wanted to remind those that are struggling that they are not alone. This day provides the opportunity to renew the commitment to staying sober or marking the start of a journey to getting sober.

Substance abuse is an epidemic that affects millions of people around the world. If you feel like you’re struggling, please know that there […]

National Aviation Day

Today is National Aviation Day, recognizing the pioneers of human flight. This day was originally acknowledged with a presidential proclamation by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939. The proclamation of this day was specifically designated for Orville Wright’s birthday.

In case you’re not familiar with the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright were American aviation pioneers credited with inventing and flying the world’s first successful airplane. Orville’s first flight was made on December 17, 1903. It lasted 12 seconds and 120 feet around the site of the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

While the brothers were not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft, they were the first to invent aircraft controls. Their breakthrough invention was their creation of a three-axis control system, which enabled the pilot to steer the aircraft effectively and maintain its […]
